Where to See Cherry Blossom in Chiang Mai

Thailand isn’t exactly known for its cherry trees, but you can see cherry trees in bloom in the north of Thailand if you come to Chiang Mai in winter.

Where can I see Sakura Bloom In Thailand?

There are some perfect places to see the real Thailand and Baan Khun Chang Kian village is one of them. Moreover, Baan Khun Chang Kian is a place where Cherry Blossom or Sakura flower can be seen in Thailand.

Beautiful surroundings of Baan Khun Chang Kian.

Baan Khun Chang Kian or known as Khun Chang Kian Highland Agriculture Research Center locates about 14 Kms away from Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. As soon as you arrive at Khun Chang Kian village, you will see a bunch of Sakura of Thailand or ‘Nang Phaya Sua Krong’ trees around.

The place is very popular with Thais. We barely saw foreigner tourist the time we visited the village.

It wasn’t so easy to reach this place because of a bumpy and narrow road. Also, we didn’t expect to wait in a traffic jam on a mountains road!

How to get there?

There are two main options – go a bike in a mint condition or go by a red truck (songthaew). If you are experienced going by motorbike would be a faster option. Though, you need to have a good motorbike going roads like this. If you go by bike, you need to first climb the road to Doi Suthep, then onto Khun Chang Kian.

The other option is the red truck. Hiring a red truck for a day works pretty well. You may find them at Wat Doi Suthep offering to go to Khun Chang Kian, but most likely they will wait until they a full truck before driving there. You might even be able to find a red truck near the zoo, that will take you both places, but it would be a private trip and probably not too cheap.

Cherry Blossom, Coffee, and Strawberries

Moreover, Baan Khun Chang Kian is a place where strawberries and local coffee is grown. The gardens where the cherry blossoms grow is not very big but is an ideal place for a very nice walk.

We tasted the coffee nearby, in a local coffee shop. Therefore you can be assured that the coffee you drink is totally fresh and delicious.

As the cherry blossom happens during the same time as the strawberry harvest, this is the busiest time of the year for the villagers and they earn a big part of their income during this period.
